If you're heading to the main campus of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), your commute will vary depending on where you live. Whether you're walking, biking, taking the bus, or driving, here’s what you can expect from Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, and Tiffin.

Iowa City: The Quick and Easy Commute

  • Distance: 2–4 miles
  • Commute Time: 5–10 minutes by car, 15–20 minutes walking or biking
  • Why It’s Great: Living in Iowa City means you’re next door to UIHC. If you're biking or walking, you'll be there before you know it, and it’s a car ride of just a few minutes. Parking is available around the hospital, but biking or walking is a great option if you want to skip the hassle. Public transit is also super convenient, with frequent bus routes.

Coralville: Close, But With More Options

  • Distance: 4–6 miles
  • Commute Time: 10–15 minutes by car, 20–25 minutes biking, 25–30 minutes by bus
  • Why It’s Great: Coralville is just a short drive away from UIHC, but you can also bike or hop on the bus. The bike ride is pleasant and relatively quick, and Coralville has a good bus service that connects directly to Iowa City. If you’re driving, expect a smooth commute via I-80 or local roads. Parking is available, but the bus and bike options make it easy to avoid any stress.

North Liberty: A Bit of a Drive, But Worth It

  • Distance: 8–10 miles
  • Commute Time: 15–20 minutes by car, 30–40 minutes biking
  • Why It’s Great: North Liberty is just far enough from UIHC that driving is the most convenient option. You can also bike, but it’s a longer ride, so be prepared for some extra time on the road. Driving along US-218 or I-80 is straightforward, but rush hour can add a few minutes to your commute.

Tiffin: The Quiet Commute

  • Distance: 12–14 miles
  • Commute Time: 20–25 minutes by car, 50–60 minutes biking
  • Why It’s Great: Tiffin offers a peaceful lifestyle, but it's the furthest from UIHC. Driving is the easiest and fastest way to get there, but if you’re feeling adventurous, biking is an option, though it will take a bit longer.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re walking, biking, taking the bus, or driving, each area offers a different commuting experience to University of Iowa Hospitals. Iowa City is the shortest and easiest, Coralville offers flexibility, North Liberty requires a bit more time, and Tiffin gives you a quiet retreat with a longer drive. Pick the commute that fits your lifestyle and enjoy all the perks these lovely towns offer!
